I worked with a client last week for smoking cessation. I talked with her this morning and she reported that all is going well, except for one slip up. Last Fri night she was at a club and had a few drinks and ended up smoking 3 cigs. But, thankfully, the next day she remained smoke free. But she wants to come in for a hypnosis session for not smoking in the context of drinking and clubing. Not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions?

Hello Tranceman,
Get the client into deep trance and then have her imagine that she is in the bar and has had a few drinks. She feels a urge for a cigarette and she notices a feeling inside that she doesn't like. Then build on that feeling and regress to its cause. Should be simple to do. When you have the cause use whatever therapy that cause calls for. The problem should be solved.

Hi,

There is a very strong alcohol/smoking connection; for anyone who has never experienced this, it may be hard to understand. I have never had a smoking habit, but back when I was younger, I would actually smoke when I drank, and only under the influence of alcohol.
With every client I work with, I discuss their relationship with alcohol. For the drinkers, I advise limiting their intake to the point that they don't get drunk (maybe 2 drinks). I tell them we don't want them getting so drunk that they don't even realize what they are doing. Then during the session, when they are deep, I do some work having them imagine that they are having whatever they drink, but no desire to smoke...they drink but they have no desire to smoke because of blah blah blah I reinforce that a lot. If a drinker slips by smoking when under the influence, I do not believe this has anything to do with a deep rooted feeling. They are simply not even thinking. So, I have found the best thing is to advise to try to limit the consumption at the beginning, and then give suggestions for drinking without smoking (since we know they will be drinking).

Hope that helps,
Melanie

Hello Hypnofriends from Italy

Very interesting and helpful for me. First "I am sorry for my bad english" 🙂
I have a client he stopped after one session and he did smoke for 50 years. He only smoke sometimes a half cigr. when he feel to much stress. For him it is ok this way. SO he do not come back for a other session.

I am very thankful that I could help him to stop smoking after 50 years.

Faithfully
