I hope I am posting this in the correct place. I have a friend who works with abused women. She always gets very angry everytime I mention that I am going to be doing hypnosis. Apparently, she knows of someone who has been in psychatric hospital for 10 years because of someone using hypnosis on her and bringing out of her brain something so traumatic that should never have been opened up.
She is constantly telling me the psychiatrists and psychologists that work with these abused women tell her that nobody except someone trained in these professions should be delving into someone's brain with hypnosis.
When I mentioned to her that she was in hypnosis driving on a trip in the rain, and when she was engrossed with a movie, she told me I was cute, & pretty much nuts.
This friend was yelling and screaming at me about how anyone who does hypnosis should know what lobes were what in the brain, where they were all located and that even the professionals don't know enough about the brain, and therefore I was putting people in harms way if I tried to use hypnosis on them. That I was being dangerous and she would even go so far as to discourage people from even using me as a health coach because I was so dangerous. The 100 hours we put in for our training and other hours after count for nothing because we don't hold psychiatric degrees.
I've told her before that people wouldn't remember things if they weren't capable of handling them, but that too resulted in her yelling and screaming at me.
Even something as simple as guided imagery, and smoking cessation using hypnosis should be illegal & if it was up to her she would see that anyone who uses hypnosis should be shut down.
I asked her if she really believed I would knowingly cause anyone any harm? and told her if someone came to me with something I couldn't handle, I would refer them to someone else who could help them.
I am so upset right now, I am shaking. She is a medical projects manager who used to work in the IT business. She even told me she has enough education to almost qualify her for a psychiatric degree.
How do I handle this stuff? I had my clinical hypnotherapy certification for a number of years now, and am just getting around to finally implement it into practice.
